Crenshaw Announces 3 Conroe ISD Winners of Congressional Art Competition

THE WOODLANDS, TX -- Congressman Dan Crenshaw announced three Conroe ISD students as winners, including the Grand Champion, in the annual Congressional Art Competition.

Andrea Shi, a sophomore at College Park High School, was selected as the grand champion and her work “One Last Kiss” will be displayed in the halls of the U.S. Capitol for an entire year. Sienna Dillard, a senior at College Park, won the People’s Choice award and her work “Lone Rider” will be displayed in Congressman Crenshaw’s Office in Washington DC. Amber De La Torre, a freshman at College Park, was the Freshman Class winner, and her work “Foraging at Sunset” will be displayed at The Woodlands District Office.

“Congratulations to all the students who participated in this fun competition we hold every year to recognize great, young artists,” Crenshaw said. “I’m so proud of the incredibly talented students we have across our district. It will be an honor to show off the winning artwork in our nation’s capital and our Texas offices.”

Fifty-three pieces of art were submitted by students from schools within Crenshaw’s district, including Conroe ISD, New Caney ISD, Humble ISD, Huffman ISD, and The John Cooper School.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the nation and each congressional district. Students submit artwork to their Congressional member’s office and winners are selected from eligible entries.

Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
