THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra (WSO) will close its tenth season (“Season X”) with the largest, most ambitious program yet: the program will feature WSO’s interpretations of Ravel’s “Bolero,” Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue,” and the massive “Pictures at an Exhibition” by Mussorgsky. The orchestra will perform at Christ Church Methodist (The Woodlands) on Sunday, May 5, at 6:00 PM.

May 5th concert features timeless classics—and saxophones!

“Ten years ago when we formed WSO, I never would have imagined performing a program of this size and scale,’” said Woodlands Symphony Artistic Director and Principal Trumpet Darryl Bayer. “Individually, these are truly massive orchestral works that challenge even the most advanced orchestras. This program will showcase the true power and artistry of your Woodlands Symphony.”

“What sets us apart – what is at the very soul of this orchestra – is our mission to celebrate home-grown musicians and local talent,” Bayer added. “We listen to and know our audience. When they asked for Handel’s ‘Messiah,’ we gave them a 100-piece choir, orchestra and soloists! For years a common audience question was, ‘Where are the saxophones?’ So, we curated the finale of Season X to feature a section of saxes in all our selections. There is no other orchestra like us anywhere in the world because we are The Woodlands.”
