CONROE, TX -- Children’s Safe Harbor recently hosted its first annual Sporting Clay Tournament at Blackwood Sporting Company in Conroe on April 25, and what a success it was! With 14 teams and 11 generous sponsors, the fundraising event netted close to $25,000 which will go toward the operating costs of the children’s advocacy center.

Members of the Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) 7 Coves Chapter were on hand to volunteer, as were several board members including board president Matt Rodrigue, board vice president Rey Saludares, Robert Austria, Yesenia Herrera, Dwight Johnson, Jill Parker, Shanna Redwine, Cynthia Schlanger, and Kate Sloan.

Generous sponsors included Air Loom Heating & Cooling, BACA Bikers Against Child Abuse, Billy Mills Git-A-Guide Guide Service, Gauge Real Estate Partners, Gallery Furniture, Lasker Catering, Judge Wayne L. Mack, Montgomery County Constable Precinct 3 Ryan Gable, Waterway Wealth Management, Woodforest National Bank, and XXL Construction.

Taking their best shot, the winning teams were: First Place – Keough Team, Second Place – Waterway Wealth Management, and Third Place Woodforest National Bank. Other teams included Air Loom Cooling & Heating, BACA, Mark Domingue, Montgomery County Constable Precinct 3 Ryan Gable, Gary Hutton, Gauge Real Estate Partners, Jason Harris, Sloan Group, Tellepsen, and William Rogers.

During the tournament awards lunch, Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Ligon addressed the crowd with his passion for justice, hope, and healing for sexually assaulted and traumatized children and their families in recognition of April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month. Ligon demonstrated his support with a $7,500 donation from his office and the purchase of silent auction items.

“I am very happy with the response and turnout for this event. With it being our first year doing a clay shoot I think we set the stage for an even bigger event next year. The folks in this community continued to show their support for this great organization and our kids,” said Matthew Rodrigue, Children’s Safe Harbor Board President and Chief of Police for Spring ISD.
