It's a very even day: Welcome to the Spring Equinox
Today, Tuesday, March 19, marks the start of spring, which came a day or so early this time around due to 2024 being a leap year. Hand in hand with this is the Vernal Equinox; the day in spring where today and tonight will be the exact same length. After this, the days will get longer until the Summer Solstice on June 20.
The equinox occurs when the sun is directly over the equator resulting in a nearly equal length of night and day for nearly every region of the world. It's called the Vernal Equinox because the word "vernal" means "spring" and "equinox" means "equal night" in Latin.
