Meet Our Firm:
Adam T. Muery
Adam Muery is a former prosecutor having served as an Assistant County and District
Attorney and as a Special Appointed District Attorney. As an Assistant Attorney General
he served as Counsel for the Office of Special Investigations and additionally represented
the Texas Department of Public Safety, The Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and
other state agencies and officials in litigation in both state and federal court. He is admitted
to practice by the Supreme Court of Texas as well as by the Eastern, Western and
Southern Federal Districts of Texas. He has served as lead counsel on hundreds of cases
in state and federal court. He has served as trial counsel in eleven cases including six jury
trials.
In 2007 Mr. Muery answered the call of service and served in Iraq in a joint role with the
Department of Justice, Department of State, and Department of Defense. He served as
Lead National Police Advisor, Deputy Director of Training, and CPATT Inspector General
under the Directorate of Interior Affairs. He developed a legal training curriculum used
throughout the Iraqi Ministry of Interior. Mr. Muery currently serves as an officer in the
Texas State Guard on the staff of the Commanding General.
Mr. Muery earned his undergraduate degree at Texas A&M University and completed his
Doctorate of Jurisprudence at the University of Texas School of Law. While in law school
he served as a research assistant in the area of family law, served in the criminal defense
clinic, and had numerous mock trial victories. He also completed Advanced Criminal
Defense Tactics taught by famed Houston attorney Dick Deguerin.
In private practice Mr. Muery has represented clients accused of criminal activity,
individuals in divorces and child custody disputes, and corporations in multi-million dollar
litigation.
Mr. Muery is a former police officer and currently commissioned Master Peace Officer and
TCLEOSE Certified Law Enforcement Instructor. He is also a former U.S. Marine having
served as an infantry machine-gunner
William Fry
Mr. Fry is an experienced litigator and transactional attorney who has focused much of his career in the construction
and industrial sectors. He has served as regional general counsel for American Tank & Vessel and has negotiated
contracts throughout the United States as well as in Africa and South America.
Mr. Fry has served as a civil engineer in Texas, Puerto Rico, and St. Croix. He has additionally served as a director
of operations and Senior Vice President for a leading industrial services company.
Mr. Fry has also served clients in the areas of probate, wills and estate planning.
Mr. Fry earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and his Juris Doctor from the
University of Houston Law Center.
Merissa Muery
Merissa Muery is a former Assistant County Attorney where she primarily represented the state in the area of family law. She has represented the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in hundreds of hearings and dozens of trials. She also represented over 200 victims of family violence in applications for protective orders. In 2005, she was selected as prosecutor of the year by the Child Advocacy Center of Williamson County. She also represented the State of Texas in multiple criminal jury trials and dozens of negotiated plea agreements.
Mrs. Muery is a graduate of Texas Tech University and earned her Doctorate of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law. She represented indigent clients in the immigration clinic winning amnesty for two families. She also fought for the rights of children in the child advocacy clinic. She is conversational in the African languages of Siswati and Zulu.
Mrs. Muery now focuses her practice primarily on family law and representing families and children in cases involving the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.
Nathan Calvert
The Firm's IP matters are handled by Nathan Calvert of the Culbertson Law Group. Nathan focuses his practice on intellectual property procurement and litigation. Prior to joining the firm, his practice on intellectual property procurement and litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Nathan was an associate attorney at the top-ranked intellectual property litigation firm, Fish & Richardson. Nathan has a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University and a J.D. from The University of Texas. His professional experience includes four years in engineering and product management supporting technical operations at the CIA.
Candice Brown
Candice Brown graduated magna cum laude from Texas A&M University and is now a third year law student at the University of Houston Law Center. At law school, Ms. Brown works at the University of Houston Legal Aid Clinic representing clients in divorce, custody, probate, and guardianship matters. Before joining Fry, Muery & Muery, Ms. Brown served as an intern for Governor Rick Perry’s General Counsel and Federal Magistrate Judge, Frances Stacy. She is also an editor of the Houston Journal of International Law.
David Freshwater
David Freshwater obtained his undergraduate degree from Auburn University where he graduated cum laude and obtained his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center where he also graduated cum laude. While in law school Mr. Freshwater was an associate editor of the Houston Business and Tax Law Journal. Mr. Freshwater also honed his litigation skills on the University of Houston's Mock Trial team. He was also inducted into the
Order of the Barons, an academic honor society for students at the University of Houston. Before joining Fry, Muery & Muery, Mr. Brown served as an intern for Justice Guzman of the 14th Court of Appeals and worked as a law clerk for Lone Star Legal Aid.
