As an extension of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital was built in The Woodlands in 2003 to offer the local community a family-centered care in a healing environment.
Our 150-private-bed, nonprofit hospital offers a full range of family healthcare, from pediatrics to geriatrics, from the emergency center to the birthing center, from diagnostics to surgery.
Over the years, we have added services to better serve you and your neighbors. Our new patient care tower and comprehensive heart program are just two examples. And we continue to grow!
We understand that to provide the best care for our patients means to care for the whole family. That’s just one of the reasons all our rooms are private with full-size sofas so that a family member can stay overnight. Except in our intensive care units, we do not have set visiting hours, and each floor has a comfortable family lounge. Family members and visitors are important to our patients, and they are important to us.
St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital, a 150-private-bed, nonprofit hospital, is part of St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System. We understand the importance of each patient’s support systems and the desire to receive excellent healthcare in the community. We are the only hospital in the area to partner with other Texas Medical Center organizations ranked in the top 10 of their specialties by U.S.News and World Report. Texas Children’s Hospital manages the hospital’s pediatric care, and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center’s Radiation Treatment Center offers radiation oncology services on-site.
Medical Staff
Community-based physicians represent a wide range of medical specialties; many are located in the Medical Arts Centers on the hospital campus.

Staff
The nursing, clinical and support staff of St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital care about our patients, their families and the community. We are always looking for ways to enhance the healthcare experience. Our Nursing department, staffed by more than 300 RNs, was awarded Pathway to Excellence designation by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in 2008. Also in 2008, Modern Healthcare magazine named the hospital to its inaugural list of the nation’s Top 100 Places to Work in Healthcare.
Community
St. Luke’s works hand in hand with other community organizations to promote good health. Medical staff, employees and volunteers participate in classes, health fairs, seminars and events throughout Montgomery County. Members of the hospital’s management team hold leadership positions on a number of community boards.
Our Programs
With the completion of the second patient tower, St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital has 150 private beds and space to grow. The addition expands the intensive care units to 20 beds, with 10 additional step-down beds for patients who require less intensive services; adds a 30-bed medical/surgical telemetry unit; and increases telemetry beds to 64 for patients who require continuous cardiac monitoring.
Heart Program
Our comprehensive Heart Program includes diagnosis, treatment, interventional cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. We continue to expand the program and bring the latest technology and techniques to Montgomery County. Physicians have performed many “firsts” for The Woodlands at St. Luke’s, including open heart surgery and endovascular aortic aneurysm repair. The hospital also introduced the first intravascular ultrasound. There is certainly more to come.
Board-certified cardiologists refer their patients to St. Luke’s for diagnostic exams including echocardiography, exercise stress test, nuclear stress test and heart catheterization. Interventional cardiology is extensive: heart catheterization procedures, percutaneous peripheral angioplasty, stent placement, intravascular ultrasound, atherectomy, pacemaker and implantable cardioverter defibrillator insertion, electrophysiology studies, cardiac ablation, cardioversion, venacava filter placement, endovascular aortic aneurysm repair and more. If surgery is necessary, board-certified cardiovascular surgeons perform valve replacement or repair, aneurysm repair, coronary artery bypass, arrhythmia surgery and carotid endarterectomy.
Surgery Center
Same-day and inpatient surgery includes a wide range of surgical procedures for adults and children older than six months.
Once physicians book a surgery, the patient will be called by hospital staff to schedule pre-op testing such as lab work, x-rays and EKG, as necessary. Patients can register for surgery and complete testing in the Diagnostic Testing area on the first floor. During pre-op testing, patients will learn what to expect before and during surgery, as well as post-op recovery.
Robotic Surgery
The da Vinci® Surgical System is revolutionizing surgical procedures. Because the system allows minimally-invasive access, patients experience a shorter hospital stay and recovery time, as well as fewer post-surgical complications and a faster return to normal daily activity. This enhancement in surgical capabilities improves clinical outcomes and underscores the hospital excellence in quality care. An expanding list of procedures is available using the da Vinci system.
Diagnostic Imaging
St. Luke’s all-digital diagnostic studies mean lower-dosage radiation, shorter exam time, fewer callbacks and faster results.
Images can be sent electronically to requesting physicians and to radiologists in the Texas Medical Center, including mammography experts at St. Luke's and pediatric radiologists at Texas Children's Hospital. Voice recognition reporting translates to quicker report delivery to primary care physicians and faster treatment for patients.
General diagnostic testing includes radiology, ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, nuclear medicine and pulmonary function testing. Women's services comprise bone density, body composition studies, mammography, breast ultrasound and biopsy, breast MR and biopsy, and steriotactic exams.
The department offers a number of specialty services, including vascular and non-vascular interventional radiology. Kyphoplasty, a minimally invasive spinal surgery procedure used to treat vertebral compression fractures, also is offered at St. Luke’s.
Family Birthing Center
St. Luke’s private, up-to-date birthing suites are designed to cater to families providing a comfortable homelike experience. Mothers labor, deliver and recover in the same room. Fathers may be present with physician consent. Rooming-in, which allows bonding between parents and baby, is encouraged, but the newborn nursery is available at parents’ request. A lactation specialist is available to offer support to breastfeeding mothers.
A Maternal-Fetal Medicine program provides care for high-risk pregnant women and their unborn children. Hospital tours and classes are available to expectant parents.
Pediatrics
Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) manages all pediatric services including inpatient care, the Level III Nursery and emergency care. St. Luke’s is the only area hospital staffed with board-certified pediatric emergency physicians. Pediatric radiologists and pathologists interpret all pediatric diagnostic exams.
A child life specialist is available to children throughout the hospital to help them deal with the stress of hospitalization and medical tests. The inpatient pediatric unit has child-size restrooms, a place for a parent to stay in each room and a nearby playroom.
TCH leases the third and sixth floors of Medical Arts Center I where its staff offers physical, occupational and speech therapy and specialized services provided by a wide range of board-certified TCH and Baylor College of Medicine pediatric specialists.
Bariatric Surgery
Bariatric surgery may be an option for patients who have a Body Mass Index above 40. St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital offers a comprehensive bariatric program that includes a support group and nutritional counseling before and after surgery.
Board-certified surgeons offer three surgical options:
· Lap-Band® – a band is placed at the top of the stomach, creating a pouch that holds less food
· Roux-en-Y gastric bypass – the stomach is divided to create a pouch, and food is diverted around a portion of the intestines
· Gastric sleeve – part of the stomach is removed, leaving a cylindrical or sleeve-shaped stomach with the outlet valve and nerves left intact
Emergency Department
The hospital’s Emergency Department is staffed by board-certified adult and pediatric emergency physicians. The department includes triage, exam and procedure rooms, outpatient infusion and a clinical decision unit for patients who require observation without hospitalization. A fast-track program offers less serious patients an average length of stay of less than two hours.
St. Luke’s Community Emergency Centers (CEC) also are available to area residents of all ages. The CECs are staffed by board-certified physicians, emergency-trained nurses and licensed radiology and laboratory technologists. The Centers offer comprehensive emergency care around the clock; visits are billed as hospital emergency room services.
