THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- It’s the holiday season and shoppers at The Woodlands Mall can earn their wings by buying a gift for someone on The Salvation Army Angel Tree. From Friday, Nov. 20 through Sunday, Dec. 13, volunteers from The Salvation Army will be staffing The Angel Tree at The Woodlands Mall, asking individuals to make the holidays a little brighter for a needy child or senior citizen.

According to Lieutenant Lacy Parrish of The Salvation Army, in 2008, The Angel Tree at The Woodlands Mall helped almost 1,000 families in Montgomery County to have a better holiday. “This year, we hope to help the same number or more,” says Lieutenant Parrish. “Through our partnership with the Houston branch of The Salvation Army, in early November, we had about 29,000 children registered to receive Christmas assistance. Through the generosity of citizens at The Woodlands Mall and throughout greater Houston, we will be able to make the holidays brighter for every one who has registered.”

The Angel Tree is decorated with numbered tags with information about individuals who are in need of a gift for Christmas, including children ages newborn to 13 and senior citizens who are in area nursing facilities. Contributors can remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts based on the information on the tag. Shoppers return the gifts, unwrapped, and The Salvation Army will distribute the gifts in time for Christmas.

The Angel Tree, located in Center Court near The Information Center, is staffed by Salvation Army volunteers Monday through Sunday during mall hours. Any gifts that are donated after Sunday, December 13 should be delivered to The Salvation Army, 304 Avenue E in Conroe between the hours of 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, please call The Salvation Army – Conroe at 936 760-2440.

For the 2009 holiday season, The Salvation Army, Greater Houston Area Command has registered 30,000 local children and seniors throughout Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties as "Angels" to be adopted by the community at select locations including The Woodlands Mall and Willowbrook Mall.
