THE WOODLANDS, Texas--Lone Star College-Montgomery has partnered with Guitar Houston to bring fantastic performances and creative student learning opportunities to campus this fall.

Guitar Houston Events ‘Strike a Chord’ with students

It all begins on Sunday, October 14, with a Guitar Master Class led by internationally acclaimed guitarist and recording artist Juan Carlos Laguna at 12 p.m., in the Recital Hall, located in the college’s Music Hall (Building H). The class will feature outstanding local guitar students and is $5 to attend (or free for LSC-Montgomery Guitar Club students and Guitar Houston members.)

“As part of its mission, Guitar Houston focuses on education by connecting guest artists with area students,” said Kris Chapman, professor of music at LSC-Montgomery. “This collaboration allows our students to learn from and work with renowned performers. During the visits, students perform for the other guitarists and receive comments and feedback to better help their technique and performance.”

According to Chapman, LSC-Montgomery’s Recital Hall is quickly becoming the premier venue for solo performances and chamber music.

“This area benefits from absolutely fantastic performances without the trek to Houston,” said Chapman. “Our facility offers a superb listening environment, especially for guitar performances, and we’re excited for this partnership and the events it will bring to campus.”

The following Guitar Houston events will take place this fall in the Recital Hall.

• Artist Concert with Dr. Andrew Zohn on Sunday, October 28, at 2 p.m. The cost is $10 for general admission.

• Guitar Master Class with Ana Vidovic on Sunday, November 18, at 12 p.m. The cost is $5 to audit the class or free for LSC-Montgomery Guitar Club students and Guitar Houston members.

Guitar Houston is a membership organization that brings together classical guitar aficionados for live performances, lectures, activities, and master classes. The group supports worthy and talented developing artists and provides the greater Houston area with cultural enrichment.

The collaboration between Guitar Houston and LSC-Montgomery began when David Barfield, founder of Guitar Houston, began taking lessons from Alejandro Montiel, adjunct professor of guitar at LSC-Montgomery. Both realized that such collaboration, along with the creation of a Guitar Club, would be valuable tools for guitar students.
