The John Cooper School Baseball team ready for Florida
The John Cooper School baseball team will be departing on Saturday for its annual trip to Florida for Spring Break.
“We have gone to Cocoa Beach, Fla. for the past six years but this year we are going to Vero Beach, Fla. at the former spring training home of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers,” Cooper baseball coach Brent Landrum said.
“The Dodgers trained there for 61 seasons, the first of which was their first spring training with Jackie Robinson as a member of the then Brooklyn Dodgers.
“This trip gives the team an opportunity to bond over the week of Spring Break. We are together as a team for seven days and we play anywhere from five to six games in that time. We always come back a better team after the trip and play our best baseball in those next two to three weeks after the trip.”
Cooper senior Chris Demetriades is once again looking forward to the trip.
“The baseball season wouldn't seem right without the Florida trip,” Demetriades said. “It’s a busy, busy week. We typically play around five games and go to the beach, Disneyworld and an Astros spring training game.
“The Florida trip brings us together as a team and allows us to keep our baseball skills sharp while still having an awesome spring break.”
