Class Act Productions Presents "West Side Story"
THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Something’s coming, something good when Class Act Productions produces the Tony Award-winning musical, West Side Story, July 18-20, 25 & 26, at the Nancy Bock Center for Performing Arts (3800 S. Panther Creek in The Woodlands).
True to its name, Class Act promises to bring everything to the stage this landmark theatrical masterwork deserves – including a live 17-piece orchestra, professional set designs, and a $65,000 budget.
A modern adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is set in the contemporary slums of urban America. In the play, two young lovers (Tony and Maria) from opposing street gangs (the Jets and the Sharks) share a forbidden love destined for tragedy.
West Side Story introduced many well-known songs – including “Maria,” “I Feel Pretty,” “Somewhere,” and “America.” The play is probably best known for its innovative use of dance, and its introduction on Broadway marked a major turning point in theater choreography.
The cast members for the Class Act production of West Side Story are all drawn from local area schools, headed by Derek Manning (Tony) and Kelly Peters (Maria).
Performances of West Side Story will be held July 18, 19, 25 & 26 at 7:30 p.m. and July 20 at 2:30 p.m. at the Nancy Bock Center for the Performing Arts –, 3800 S. Panther Creek Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77381.
