MCWC Hosts Self-Defense Seminar for Young Women
Women's Center Expert Teaches Young Women Same Techniques Taught to Oprah Winfrey
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- In its continuous effort to provide safety education to the community, the Montgomery County Women's Center is hosting a free seminar taught by self-defense expert Michelle Peterson, owner of PROTECT Institute of Self-Defense, NSA Agent and community outreach education specialist for the Montgomery County Women's Center.
"This class is perfect for young women both in high school and college bound," Peterson said. "Parents will definitely want their daughters to attend this free and informative class."
Peterson taught Oprah Winfrey and her audience these same techniques that she will be presenting to the group on Saturday, August 2, 10 am to 2 pm at the offices of the Montgomery County Women's Center located at 1600 Lake Front Circle. Light refreshments will be provided.
The class is free though a donated of an "upscale resale / name-brand fashion" item is sought to assist the Women's Center's Rags to Riches resale clothing store whose proceeds benefit clients in emergency shelter, counseling assistance and legal advocacy.
"We are developing an 'Upscale Resale" component to our thriving Rags to Riches store and we are asking for the community's support," Donna Wick said, director of outreach and communications for the Women's Center. "Most people would normally take these types of items to a consignment shop, but we are asking for the community's assistance in seeding our 'upscale resale' by donating those clothing items to us."
The resale store provides resources for services such as emergency shelter, counseling assistance and legal advocacy, all free-of-charge, to women leaving homes of domestic violence. The 'upscale resale' items can be donated the day of the event or can be brought to the administration office of the Women's Center located at 1600 Lake Front Circle, suite 100.
"We look forward to seeing everyone at the class and appreciate the support in 'upscale resale' items to help us help ourselves in providing the many resources we do to women and children in our community," Peterson said. "Be sure to wear comfortable clothing to seminar and please bring your friends!"
For more information about the training or to RSVP, call Peterson at (281) 292-4155 at ext. 280. Spaces fill quickly for this highly informative and free training seminar. For information on the 'Upscale Resale' items, contact Donna Wick at (281) 292-4155 ext. 228.
