Knife-Wielding Man Fatally Shot at Apartment Complex
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – A standoff with police at an apartment complex on Thursday night, January 15, lead to the shooting and consequent death of a local man.
According to police, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies responded to a welfare check at the Tamarac Pines Apartment Complex at about 9:45 p.m. and attempted to make contact with Jack Steven Head, 45. Head then began yelling from inside the apartment and threatened to kill them with knives. He then emerged from the apartment yielding two large butcher knives.
The deputies repeatedly told Head to drop the knives, but he failed to do so and then advanced towards the deputies in an aggressive manner. At that time, Deputy A. Swank fired and at least 2 rounds struck Head in the upper torso. Head retreated back into his apartment and then returned to the doorway and was transported by Life Flight to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston. At about 3 a.m. Friday morning he died from his injuries.
According to MCSO officials, Dep. Swank has been placed on Administrative Leave. The MCSO Major Crimes Unit, the Texas Rangers and The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office are investigatin the shooting. The Harris County Medical Examiner’s office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy on Friday.
