THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Finding something fun to do this summer may seem impossible with record temperatures and no rain. However, here are several ways to have fun while staying indoors.

Take a Fred Astaire Free Dance Lesson
Shows such as Dancing With the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance have popularized ballroom dancing to the American public. Fred Astaire is offering one free dance lesson for anyone interested in becoming the next ballroom superstar.

Read
One of the best ways to pass the time is by reading a good book. Hours can pass when the rich imagery, dialogue and twist and turns of a compelling plot transport a reader to another world. Many movies coming out this summer were books first, such as Harry Potter and My Sister's Keeper. You may find that reading the book before watching the movie makes the story a more personal and meaningful experience.

Take a workout class at the YMCA
Exercise is not usually considered a way to cool down, but the YMCA offers classes that disguise the fact that you are working out. Fast, energetic classes such as Zumba, Bellydancing and Bootcamp offer intense workouts to tone your body. In the mood for being calm and serene? Try yoga, Pilates, or a ballet workout. The whole family can get in shape in the comfort of the indoors.

Movies
Renting movies is cheaper than ever. Netflix provides a great low monthly rate and Blockbuster now has a deal where you can rent a movie for one night for a dollar. Even the library has a vast supply of movies to pick from new and old for free. With these cheap easy options, having a movie night is a fun alternative to spending a day in the blistering heat.

Board Games
Dust off the old board games from your childhood for hours of fun. Board games are entertaining, but also educational and use critical thinking skills. Favorites such as Scrabble, Cranium, Monopoly, Yahtzee, Jenga and Twister can bring out the competitive spirit of your family and friends.

Now that you have some ideas for activities that will keep you out of the heat, make the most out of the remainder of your summer vacation!
