THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- October 20, 2009 -- The Texas Fitness & Wellness Expo, featuring the 7th Annual Texas Yoga Championships, will celebrate all aspects of the health and fitness community while teaching attendees about the latest ways to get in shape, feel great and lead more fulfilling lives.

The event will take place on Sunday, November 8, at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. Over 50 local and regional fitness and wellness experts will be on-hand at the Expo from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to demonstrate how their fields can make a real change in how people think and feel about exercise, which can lead to better health for everyone involved.

The main event at the Expo is the 7th Annual Texas Yoga Championships, the premiere event for the state's yoga community, which will be held from noon until 6 p.m. featuring youth, adult men's and adult women's divisions. During the event, more than 50 yoga practitioners will compete for the top spots and the finalist of each category will be flown to California to compete for the national and international titles. Competitors and spectators from Houston, Dallas, Ft. Worth, Austin, San Antonio and around the state are expected to attend.

"Through entertainment, inspiration and competition, this event will give health and fitness enthusiasts the opportunity to learn more about yoga and see some of the top practitioners in the state showcase their talents," explains Arnie Ballew, who along with his wife Jennifer Ballew, owns Bikram Yoga The Woodlands.

Jennifer Ballew added, "Health, fitness and wellness are essential, dynamic and growing industries. Scientific breakthroughs that can improve peoples' lives are happening every day. A portion of the proceeds from this event will be donated to four health-related charities. We encourage the local community to help our mission to spread the word and excite people about fitness and wellness by attending or becoming a sponsor of this exciting event."

The health-related charities benefiting from the event are Girls Run, Montgomery County Youth Services, Montgomery County Woman's Shelter and Montgomery County Food Bank.

General admission event passes are $10 with youth 12 and under admitted free. Admission passes are available at Bikram Yoga The Woodlands in the Woodlands Mall, the YMCA, Luke's Locker, Bike Lane, area fitness clubs and community groups, who earn money for their organizations by distributing tickets for the event. A farmer's market will set up at the venue the day of the event from 8 a.m. to noon, offering fresh fruits, vegetables and produce from across the region. Attendees can do some early shopping, take their goods to their car, and still be back in plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day's activities.
