Shelley King Music Review: Welcome Home
Shelley King delivers a well-rounded piece of work with a little help from the subdudes. Available in stores November 10th, Welcome Home has a balance of upbeat southern blues (“Falling Fast” and “How You Make Me Feel”) as well as slowed down ballads (“I Can’t Make It Easy” and “Grain of Sand”), with a mix of several other genre crossover songs. The first single “Summer Wine” has a chorus listeners will be sure to singing to themselves well after listening. The album title track, “Welcome Home” offers a stripped down back alley blues sound. With a building acoustic guitar, accordion, and haunting harmonies, it hits close to home for those who listen to it, which returns in the album closer “Welcome Home Reprise”. Living up to her reputation, Texas State Musician in 2008, King follows through with Welcome Home.
Shelley King will be performing Friday, Nov. 13 at Dosey Doe for her CD release party.
