Men’s Varsity Lacrosse Overcomes Episcopal to Remain Undefeated

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- The Woodlands Men’s Varsity Lacrosse team recently defeated Episcopal High School (EHS) at an away game in a 14 – 9 win, moving their record to 5 – 0 (3 – 0 in the district).

Senior defenseman Michael Rizzuti was ground ball king with 8 while Jackson LaPlant scooped up 7 gb's.  Junior goalie Chris Howell hung in strong and had 9 saves for the night. Senior defensemen Rizzuti, Jack Whelan, Kevin Kohli and Erik Espino played hard while somewhat containing EHS high powered offense. Also helping out on defense was junior defenseman Nick Sivon, sophomore LSM Nate Kaufman and sophomore defenseman Jack Whelan. 

The Woodlands, ranked #5 in the state by Westside Lacrosse, will take the second half of spring break to Dallas for a huge road test against #2 state ranked (#3 ranked team west of the Mississippi) Highland Park on Thursday, March 18;  #1 state ranked (and #1 ranked team west of the Mississippi) St. Marks on Friday, March 19; and #7 state ranked Episcopal Dallas on Saturday, March 20.

National participation in the game of lacrosse increased nationwide in 2009, according to research by US Lacrosse. Youth under the age of 15 showed a 12.1% increase in lacrosse participation while at the high school level, a 4% increase was shown in the sport.
