THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Melting Pot Restaurants recently celebrated National Cheese Fondue Day with “Cheese for Charity”. The local restaurant located in Shenandoah, chose the South Montgomery County YMCA as their charity of choice. For every cheese fondue purchased, $10 was donated to the YMCA. During the 8 hour period, more than $550 was raised for the local YMCA Partners Program.

Funds donated to the Partners Program enables the YMCA to provide its programs and services to families with limited financial resources. The YMCA strives to turn no one away due to inability to pay. More than $500,000 in scholarships are awarded annually to local kids, teens and families so they too can participate in YMCA enriching programs and reach their fullest potential.

“This is an opportunity for our restaurants to give back, raise awareness for these causes and create long-lasting partnerships with over 100 charitable organization that need help”, said Rod James, national director of branding for The Melting Pot Restaurants. “By celebrating National Cheese Fondue Day in this way, our guests will be able to feel like an integral part in making a difference for our communities during a time when charities have been hit hard due to economic downturn.”

Locally, Merridith Doll, General Manager of The Melting Pot states, “We chose the YMCA because we wanted to help support the ideals they choose to instill in the community. We see a lot of children and families in our restaurants and we wanted to make sure we helped support them”.

Despite the turbulent economy, The YMCA Mission is Not in Recession. The YMCA is a force of hope for millions because it has faith in others and encourages others to have faith in themselves, their communities and their beliefs. We strive to be a place in the community where no child, family or individual is turned away and where each person who walks through our doors is valued for who they are, not what others believe they should be. To children, the Y is a safe, nurturing place to foster relationships and build self-confidence. As children learn and grow through Y Swim Lessons, Early Childhood Education, Youth Sports Leagues and Camp, they develop an honest heart, a caring and responsible attitude and faith that someone will always be there to support them.
