War Eagles soar past Dawson
Grett threw for 236 yards and rushed for another 62 yards while leading a 24-point second-quarter explosion that broke a 7-7 tie after one period of play.
A 32-yard field goal from Martin Gonzalez ignighted the fireworks midway through the second quarter as the War Eagles (1-1) tallied 24 points in under six minutes. Grett dashed 25 yards for his second rushing score of the night to put the War Eagles in the lead for good. He cruised to an 8-yard touchdown run in the final minute of the first quarter after Dawson (0-2) jumped out to a 7-0 lead.
Jamal Candley then shined the light on an opportunistic defense with a 34-yard interception return for a touchdown. But Grett wasn’t finished. He threw 41 yards to Cade Cyr for yet another second-quarter score and the War Eagles enjoyed a 31-13 halftime advantage.
Cyr led all receivers with five catches for 77 yards.
Grett punctuated his career-night with a 41-yard touchdown pass to Macklin Thomas in the final seconds of the third quarter.
