College Park senior Nick Naumann signed his letter of intent to play tennis at the University of Texas next fall, UT head men’s tennis coach Michael Center announced Friday.

Naumann ranks No. 13 nationally among high school seniors by Tennis Recruiting.net. Naumann, who has ranked as high as No. 200 in the ITF world junior rankings, placed third in the doubles draw at the 2011 USTA National Clay Court Championships and took fourth place in the singles and doubles draws at the 2011 USTA Spring Nationals in Mobile, Ala. He also boasts four ITF junior doubles titles and was a runner-up in an ITF Grade I doubles event in Venezuela.

“I watched Nick play a lot this summer, and I saw him get to balls that a lot of guys have trouble getting to,” Center said. “I really like the fact that while under pressure, when the points were big, he was constantly trying to come forward to the net. Nick is an outstanding doubles player. When you get athletes like Nick, they tend to take off once they get to college, and that’s what I expect out of him. With Nick and Andrew (Korinek), we picked up two very good singles players for next season who can also help us in doubles.”
