Storms heading east after heavy rains

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Heavy thunderstorms have largely passed through Houston but there is a 40 percent chance of rain Wednesday.

A flash flood watch was in effect for several counties in the Houston area, including Montgomery County, until noon following heavy rains.

Thunderstorms have been moving steadily eastward, leaving between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service for Houston and Galveston. Most of the rain left the greater Houston area by noon.

The high for Tuesday is near 76 degrees. South winds are moving at 5 to 15 mp and turning northwest. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.

Tuesday night there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, according to the service. Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 56 F. Calm wind will turn west around 5 mph.

Wednesday there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m. The day will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 68 F. North winds are expected to be between 5 and 10 mph.
