CONROE, Texas -- Other races in the county may have been decided on Tuesday but one was left standing: county attorney.

Candidates JD Lambright and Phyllis Rainey, both Republicans, didn’t get enough votes to secure the job and will have a runoff election July 31, 2012. There is no Democrat in the race so the winner of the election will become the county attorney on Jan. 1, 2013.

Lambright secured 14,985 votes, or 38.7 percent in all 86 county precincts while Rainey received 12,963 votes, or 33.5 percent.

Rainey has been the assistant county attorney for the past nine years and a resident of Montgomery County for 35 years. She studied business administration at Sam Houston State University before attending law school at the University of Houston. For the past nine years she’s served as counsel to the county’s commissioners court and county departments.

Lambright has owned a law practice in Conroe for the past 13 years and had previously worked for 25 years at Shell Oil Company. He received his bachelors and masters degrees in electrical engineering from Texas Tech University and studied law at South Texas College of Law in Houston.
