Strykers: Playoff hopes vanishing

BRYAN, Texas – The Woodlands Strykers watched their playoff hopes all but vanish after dropping a 12-1 decision at the second round champion Brazos Valley Bombers on Thursday.

The loss drops the Strykers to 13-14 in second round play while the Alexandria Aces (14-13) took a big step in locking up the fourth and final playoff berth with a 7-2 win at home Thursday over the Acadiana Cane Cutters (12-14).

The Strykers finish their inaugural season in the Texas Collegiate League with scheduled games on Friday and Saturday at the playoff bound Victoria Generals.

Michael Aquino, who went 1-for-4 on Thursday, continues to lead the league in hitting (.327) and homers (10) and is fourth in RBI (36).

Carter Burgess (2-for-4) led the Strykers’ offense. He is second in the league in homers (6) and RBI (37).

Garrett Lozano, Adrian Lopez, and Martin Cronin rounded out the Strykers’ hit totals with one apiece. Cronin (0-4) suffered the loss.
