OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – The Oak Ridge High School volleyball team played an instant classic with Conroe on Tuesday at home. The Lady War Eagles rallied from a 2-1 deficit to claw and scratch their way to a 3-2 (19-17) victory in District 14-5A play.

The College Park High School volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match to visiting A&M Consolidated, in a contest that was much closer than the final score would indicate. The Lady Cavaliers won the first game 25-17 but let Games 2 and 4 slip away by identical 26-24 margins. A&M Consolidated, ranked No. 24 in Class 5A, sandwiched in a 25-20 win between those two games as College Park fell to 2-1 in district matches.

Alex and Emily Thorson turned in big games for College Park along with Cori Schrier.

“I thought we played well but made some crucial mistakes,” Lady Cavaliers coach Candice Collins said.

Meanwhile, The Woodlands High School volleyball team, ranked No. 6 in Class 5A, made short work of visiting Kingwood 3-0 Tuesday in a non-district match. Courtney Quinn had 13 kills as the Lady Highlanders rolled to a 25-8, 25-18, 25-18 victory.

The Woodlands gets back into District 14-5A play when they host Bryan at 6 p.m. Friday.

Oak Ridge improved to 2-1 in district play by outlasting a relentless attack from Conroe. Victoria Harris totaled 24 kills in the match to lead the Lady War Eagles at the net.

Oak Ridge broke a 22-22 tie in the first game with the final three points of the match and looked to carry that momentum into the second game. But the Tigerettes settled in behind the 23-kill performance from Aubrey Harrison and made a match of it.

Conroe claimed the second and third games by scores of 25-20 and 25-23.

It was Oak Ridge’s turn to battle back. The Lady War Eagles extended the match with a 25-21 win and a full house was treated to a heart-pounding finish.
