THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Lone Star College-Montgomery’s music department presents the first choir concert of the season, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” on Thursday, October 18, at 7:30 p.m., in the Recital Hall, located in the college’s Music Hall (Building H).

The Concert Choir and Chamber Singers, under the direction of Dr. Mark Marotto, director of choral activities and assistant professor of music at LSC-Montgomery, will present a selection of choral works that capture contrasts of light and evoke the transition from night into day. The program will include works by Claude Debussy and Williametta Spencer, as well as “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” a choral arrangement of the Dolly Parton hit. Nicole Niederer will be the accompanist.

Additionally, the concert will feature guest artist Alejandro Montiel, adjunct professor of guitar at LSC-Montgomery. Montiel will accompany the Chamber Singers in Jeffrey Van’s “A Procession of Winding Around Me,” a work based on Walt Whitman’s Civil War poetry.

This is the first LSC-Montgomery concert for Marotto, who joined the college this fall after leading the choral programs at Eastern Michigan University and Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J. He has lived and worked in five countries and completed his doctorate in choral conducting at the University of Michigan under Jerry Blackstone.

Concert tickets are $10 for general admission or $5 for students, staff, and faculty. Tickets may be purchased online.
