THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Perfect weather and a day off to play golf were only the beginning for one participant in this year's TWHS Golf Team Scramble Fundraiser. Mark Hill, a guest of TWHS Golf Booster Club member Mike Ryan, scored a hole-in-one on the 5th hole at The Woodlands Country Club's Player Course last Tuesday. That was good enough to win a 2012 Sewell Infiniti G37, which was parked at the hole.

Not only did Hill sink the hole-in-one, he did it with rented clubs. Hill's own clubs were recently stolen.

'This is unbelievable,' said Hill, 'We were just joking with each other before we teed off about winning the car, and then it happens! My ball hit about 10 feet to the left of the hole and then just slowly started rolling. We were all just watching it and when it went in, everyone went crazy. I was kind of in shock, and wanted to make sure it actually went in. My teammates were jumping around and yelling, and texting on their cell phones, and I was just soaking it all in. I actually enjoyed watching their excitement as much as anything. They really made me feel good, and I appreciate them so much.'

Jorge Lerdo, another Booster Club member, ran the contest at the hole and served as a witness to the win.

'Mark made two practice swings and then stood firmly towards the par three. He hit the ball with a hybrid 4 and the ball landed on the green rolling towards the hole. We witnessed how the ball started to roll and roll and finally got in the hole. At this moment, everyone started screaming and jumping up and down.'

Participants in the tournament bought chances to win prizes on each of five holes, all sponsored by Sewell Infiniti, with one chance per player per hole. TWHS Golf Team alumni who have gone on to a professional career, and other local professional golfers, were on hand to meet the players and participate at some of the hole contests.

This is the second annual TWHS Golf Team Scramble Fundraiser; proceeds provide the funding necessary for more players to participate in this state-winning program. Long-time Coach Steve Cribari has seen district funding cut severely in recent years, and relies heavily on the proceeds from the scramble to maintain the size and caliber of the team.

The TWHS Golf Team Scramble is held annually in the fall. Information for the event is available from Booster Club Member Maurice Novak at mnovak@summit.com.
