THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams at The Woodlands High School captured league championships in 2012-13, so it comes as no surprise that both would headline the recently announced All-District 14-5A Teams.

In addition, both coaches, Highlanders Dale Reed and Lady Highlanders Dana Bruton, earned Coach of the Year honors.

College Park High School senior standout Alexia Sanders garnered 14-5A Most Valuable Player honors. Sanders led the Lady Cavaliers to a 20-12 playoff season. She scored more than 600 points this season, averaging 20 points per game to go along with seven steals, four steals and three assists.

The Woodlands’ Kelsey Lang earned Defensive Player of the Year. Lang averaged 10 rebounds per game in leading the Lady Highlanders to a district championship and a 28-8 season. The University of Texas-bound senior post also averaged three blocks and two steals to go along with 16 points per game.

Girls’ All-District 14-5A First Team honors also went to Lady Highlanders teammates Nicole Iademarco (junior) and Kori Dyer (senior).

College Park seniors Uma Rajagopalan and Amaris Hollis also earned All-District 14-5A First Team recognition as did Oak Ridge High School senior J’Taisha Bryant and junior Macie Chapa.

The Woodlands junior Emily Gauthier was named to the All-District 14-5A Second Team along with College Park seniors Leah Breakfield and Elaine Hurtado, and Oak Ridge senior Ashlyn Garza and sophomore Kelsey Scibek.
