THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- As the school year draws to a close, a number of students may be dreading that last report card even more than they are looking forward to summer vacation.

Kim Bellini, a former teacher, said children are not the only ones concerned.

“Report cards can cause a lot of anxiety and stress both for kids and their parents,” she said. “Students may feel inadequate, while parents worry about how bad grades will affect their kid’s future.”

Bellini is the owner and director of The Woodlands LearningRx, a brain-training center that focuses on improving cognitive skills – those abilities like processing speed, attention, logic and reasoning, visual and auditory processing, and memory.

Throughout the month of May, The Woodlands LearningRx is offering a discounted skills assessment test to students who bring in a report card.

“Instead of looking at those final grades as an embarrassment, we want students to move forward into a brighter future in school,” Bellini said. “Bring in a bad report card, and we’ll test you to see which cognitive skills need improving so you can do better next year.”

The assessment test helps students identify what areas need improvement; then trainers determine the steps they can take to strengthen weak cognitive skills.

“Unfortunately, many parents think that poor grades are a reflection of a bad teacher or a lazy student,” Bellini said. “That is rarely the case. Most bad report cards simply mean that the child is struggling to learn.” Most learning difficulties can be traced to weak cognitive skills, she added.

“The good news is that learning skills can be strengthened through intensive one-on-one brain training,” Bellini said. “Why not get started today? Make this your last bad report card.”
