THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity surpassed all expectations on Saturday, April 20 at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel raising a total of $619,000 for the 2nd annual Building Hope Gala. Designed to build awareness and support for Habitat’s mission to eliminate poverty housing by building decent, affordable homes in partnership with hard working families in need, the Gala was attended by more than 500 guests, according to Co-Chairs Brenda Mizell and Lisa Koetting.

The theme of the event was “Doorways to the Future”, inspired by how Habitat for Humanity transforms lives by making the dream of home ownership a reality for deserving low-income families. Anadarko Petroleum Corporation was the honoree at this year’s Gala and contributed a $50,000 gift in support of Montgomery County Habitat for Humanity. Anadarko is completing its 13th Habitat home in Montgomery County and their fifth in the Habitat neighborhood of Cedar Creek in Conroe. Anadarko has funded over $1 million in Habitat projects here and in other areas where they have offices.

Highlights of the event included a fabulous live auction which raised $113,000, silent and bid board auctions, and a personal story by Habitat homeowner Felisha Davis. The large crowd danced until midnight to the music of Klockwork after enjoying an elegant dinner.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our sponsors, underwriters and partners for this incredible outpouring of generosity,” Mizell said. “This event really helped raise awareness for our Montgomery County projects and will help us further Habitat’s vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live.”

In addition to Anadarko Petroleum’s gift, Talisman Energy was a sponsor at the $20,000 level. Other generous sponsors include D.E. Harvey Builders; Dianne and George Lindahl; Patrinely Group/Crimson Services; and Schulte Building Systems, Inc./Valspar/Lisa and Fred Koetting at the $10,000 level. At the $5,000 level, sponsors include Larry Abston; Apache Corporation; BBVA Compass; CB&I; Check-6, Inc.; Marguerite and Bruce Ference/Cyndi & Ron Brandt; Gensler; Newpark Resources; Brenda and John Mizell; Pagel, Davis & Hill, P.C.; PricewaterhouseCoopers; Strike, LLC; Paul Taylor; and Woodforest National Bank.
