Movie Review: 'Star Trek: Into Darkness'
THE WOODLANDS, Texas – The trailer for "Star Trek: Into Darkness" leaves the public wondering the name of this new villain. The trailer leads us to believe the story will be unique and new. Although the timeline shift from the predecessor "Star Trek" movie is still in play, as events unfold you will discover a striking resemblance to one of the original films.
Full of witty banter, comic quips, and heartfelt serious moments, "Star Trek: Into Darkness" is chalk full of action. Keeping you on the edge of your seat, the twists in the movie may surprise you. Replete with new aliens and old, the scenes were just as incredible as the last movie.
The new alien species may intrigue you at moments, but true Trekkers may be disappointed by the appearance of the Klingons. Yes, I said Klingons! Unfortunately, they look nothing like the iconic Klingons we have grown to love. Except for the ridges in the face, the one Klingon without a helmet, looked too much like the over-stylized, modern-day movie villain.
The scenes were absolutely jaw-dropping and although I am not a huge proponent of 3D, seeing the movie in IMAX 3D was truly amazing. There are many scenes with debris flying at your face and the close-up shots of conversation make you feel like you are standing just behind the characters. This truly is the type of action movie that was made for 3D.
Overall, whether you are a Trekker or have never dreamed of seeing a Star Trek film, this one is for anyone who loves action and adventure. I give the film an excellent rating and believe it will be in the Top 3 Summer Blockbusters in terms of quality, (already having beaten out Ironman 3 for the top spot in my opinion). So give "Star Trek: Into Darkness" a chance and 'boldly go where no man has gone before'.
