Oak Ridge offense shines in Spring Game
OAK RIDGE NORTH, Texas – The Oak Ridge High School football team held its annual Spring Game on campus Tuesday.
The War Eagles offense took on the defense for nearly one hour of scrimmage and came away with a 44-22 advantage. The offense scored in the conventional way, while the defense was awarded three points for every stop it made. The Oak Ridge defense also scored on an interception return for a touchdown.
But it could not offset six touchdowns scored by the Oak Ridge offense as the War Eagles concluded spring practice.
“It was definitely a step in the right direction,” War Eagles head coach Dereck Rush assessed. “The foundation has been built for the upcoming season."
Between now and the fall, Oak Ridge will continue to work towards the 2013 season.
“We’ll continue to get better, have a great summer, have a great 7-on-7 participation, speed and power camp throughout the summer, and hope to carry over to the (fall) season.”
Rush said he was most impressed over the spring with the physical play and the enthusiasm.
“The rest of it was just guys stepping up and making plays.”
But Rush said he feels the team has a lot of work still ahead.
“We’ve got to clean up some things on offense, the line making the right blocks, quarterbacks making the right reads, receivers catching the ball; and defense we’ve got to still continue to work on tackling and lining up correctly.”
The Woodlands High School football team and College Park High School football team will both hold Spring Games at 7 p.m. Thursday at the respective campuses.
The Woodlands 7-on-7 tournament is scheduled for Saturday, June 8, at the high school.
