Countdown to summer at the YMCA

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Re-Discover the YMCA this summer! The first day of summer vacation is less than 2 weeks away, and the South Montgomery County YMCA is gearing up for a fun filled summer. Registration is available for all YMCA Summer Programs including Y Day Camp, Y Youth Sports, Y Swim Lessons, Y Child Care, Sports Clinics, Y Teen Camp, Performing Arts and much more. Hurry in! Early sessions fill up quickly. Spend the summer at the YMCA making new friends, exploring new adventures and discovering new opportunities!

All YMCA programs promote healthy spirits, minds and bodies and consistently teach Judeo-Christian principles. The Y is a special place where each participant learns values that last a lifetime. Guided by the core values of honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith, character development is integral to all YMCA programs. Our values are always in play at the YMCA. Available to all in the community, the YMCA strives to turn no one away because of inability to pay. Limited financial assistance is available to families that substantiate a need. Summer Day Camp – It’s the Summer to Re-Discover: Summer Day Camp Program will be located at the Creekside YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center. Reconnecting kids with nature, the Creekside YMCA Outdoor Adventure Center features a 50 foot alpine tower for climbing and challenging your inner self, 30 foot Giant Swing, 12 themed treehouses, 9 colorful authentic tipis, archery, hiking, misting station, outdoor chapel & amphitheater, inflatable water slide and a boardwalk system 8 – 20 feet off the ground. Campers, ages 5 – 12, will have the ultimate outdoor experience with mother-nature as the backdrop. Additional activities include canoeing, outdoor education, songs and skits, team building, swimming and special events. Each weekly session features a theme and special activity. The centerpiece of the Creekside YMCA is the beautiful 14,000 square foot lodge for indoor activities and inclement weather options. Teen Camp – Get Energized, is for teens ages 13 – 15 years. Each week features up to 3 field trips, aquatics, field sports, team building and service learning projects. Teens will also enjoy rock climbing, alpine tower challenge course, movie making, photography, swimming and more. One of the best parts of Teen Camp is meeting other teens from neighboring Ys and coming together for special events.. It’s going to be a great summer as we travel toe vents all over Houston getting Energized! The YMCA Teen Camp is based on site at the South Montgomery County YMCA on Shadowbend Place. Specialty Camp - The Y will be offering specialty camps in addition to their Day Camp Program. Specialty camps will include Mad Science for ages 6 – 12; Adventures in Art Camp for ages 6 – 12; Rocketry & Robotics Camp for ages 6 – 12; Nature Ranger Camp for ages 6 – 12; Archery Camp for ages 8 – 12; Wild About Animals Camp for Ages 5 – 12; and Knight and Princess Camp for ages 5 – 8. First session begins June 10th. Most specialty camps are 3 hours in length.

Y Youth Sports program is designed so that each athlete is guaranteed to play 50% of every game regardless of their skill level. The summer program will include Basketball, Small Sided Soccer and Volleyball for ages PreK – 10th Grade. Registration ends June 2. The season runs June 29 – August 17.

Summer Sports Clinics provide kids, ages 3 – 13, the opportunity to learn new skills and improve current skills. Each session is unique and dynamic with a different sport and drills introduced weekly. The weekly sessions begin June 10. Most Sports Clinic sessions run 3 hours daily, Monday - Thursday. Clinics include Baseball, Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, and Flag Football. For the pre-schoolers, Tiny Tots Soccer, Basketball, T-Ball and Y World of Sports is available. Tiny Tot clinics meet for 90 minutes.

Performing Arts Workshops: The summer program is comprised of unique weekly workshops that brings out a child’s creative personality. All students are involved in acting, dancing, singing, props and costuming in a team environment. The workshops meet Monday – Friday, 1:30 – 4:30pm for students K – 12th grade. Each workshop will focus on a different musical production with a live performance every Friday including Tangled, Pop Diva Week, Boy Band Week, Best of High School Musical, Grease, Taylor Swift Week, Beach Week, and Justin Bieber Week. The YMCA also has summer ballet classes for ages 2 – 8.

Y Swim Lessons: Learning to swim at the YMCA is more than just stroke development! The YMCA, America’s favorite swim instructor, offers a variety of morning and evening classes for ALL levels and ALL ages including Parent/Child, Pre-School and School-Age. Offered in two week sessions, the first summer session begins June 10th! Saturday classes are also available. Other aquatic programs available include adult swim lessons, private swim lessons, youth swim team, youth swim league and masters swim.

In addition, the YMCA offers monthly Cooking Classes for Kids, Climbing Clinics, Parent’s Night Out, Babysitter Training, Tae Kwon Do, Weight Management for Kids, and more!

Summer at the YMCA is not just for Kids, The YMCA offers FUN for everyone including Mom and Dad so the family can do more together!
