Football: Carr, Krolcyzak top all-district team

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Top area high school football players were recognized with the recent announcement of the All-Distirct 14-5A Team.

Junior running back Patrick Carr and senior defensive end Zak Krolcyzk earned Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year honors respectively. The pair helped lead The Woodlands High School football team to a perfect 6-0 league mark and a fifth district championship in six years.

Carr rushed for 1,577 yards and 15 touchdowns this season.

In addition, Highlanders head coach Mark Schmid was named Coach of the Year after leading his team to a 10-3 overall record and a 19th consecutive playoff appearance. The Woodlands advanced to the regional round of the postseason before falling, 56-21, to No. 1 state-ranked Allen High School, which goes for its second consecutive state title on Saturday.

Quarterback Braden Letney was named Sophomore of the Year after leading the Oak Ridge High School football team to an incredible turnaround. The War Eagles (7-4) won their first seven games of the 2013 season and made the playoffs after consecutive 1-9 seasons.

Letney rushed and passed for more than 1,300 yards and accounted for 18 touchdowns in 2013.

A&M Consolidated senior quarterback Kobe Miller was named the district’s Most Valuable Player.

The Woodlands put nine more players on the first team while Oak Ridge had eight and the College Park High School football team (5-5, 2-4) added another eight to the first team.

The Woodlands senior offensive linemen Tyler Rapp and Kevin Butts earned 14-5A First Team honors along with wide receiver Tyler Patrick (39-726, 7 TD), senior linebackers Tanner Birdsong and Thomas Gilstrap, cornerbacks Tyler Murphy (senior) and T.C. Schneider (junior), junior punter Chris Andritsos, who also made second-team quarterback, and senior long snapper John Sibal.

Andritsos threw for 1,109 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for another 656 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Oak Ridge senior offensive lineman Grant Homrighaus earned 14-5A First Team honors along with senior and junior wide receivers Jarmarqus Durst (26-372, 4 TD) and Riley McKnight (10-198, 1 TD) respectively, junior running backs Kwame Etwi (126-711, 12 TD) and Justin Edwards (57-316, 4 TD), senior kicker Patrick Coale, junior defensive lineman Jacob Jaimes, and senior linebacker Clayton Grett.

College Park junior offensive linemen Grant Homrighaus and Ben Shepard (tight end) earned 14-5A First Team honors along with seniors Jayvon Jackson (DE), Tristen Newman (LB), Alex Myres (CB), Stephan Johnson (S), Eric Harrell (S) and junior defensive lineman Roosevelt Henderson.

The Woodlands second-team all-district selections include offensive linemen Jason Zgrourides and Alex Common, wide receivers Robert LeGoubin and Bayley Novak, running back Sterling Scott, defensive lineman Brandon Barnett, linebackers Corey Sanders and Geoffrey Keating, and safeties Kade Markle and Antoine Winfield.

Oak Ridge second-teamers include offensive lineman Josh Lowe, wide receiver Lamar Handy, defensive lineman John Williams, linebacker Andrew Burke, cornerback Tyler Marcel, and safety Nick Lauterbach.

College Park offensive lineman Conall Barnard, wide receiver Jayden Holden, running back Nick Black, defensive lineman Connor Weaverling, linebacker Greg Biehn, cornerback Ryder Lucas, and punter Chris Barnes, all made the all-district second team.

The Woodlands honorable mention list includes Roman Trevino, Chris Bell, Chris Fettermann, Ricardo Trevino, Jake Coll, Ryan Spaulding and Rhett Pruitt.

Oak Ridge honorable mention players include Christian Jackson, Rodney Page, Demarcus Durst, Jacob Norton, Raul Arredendo, Travis Richie, Javione Murphy Jones, Llewelldyn Jones, Benjamin Acker, Victor Alvarez, Imari Burks, JD Hurd, and Kevin Tilley Walker.
