THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Summertime is fast approaching, which means the Woodlands Strykers baseball team will soon be kicking off their third season as the Texas Collegiate League’s most recent member.

The Woodlands Strykers are one of six teams in the TCL, giving collegiate baseball players the opportunity to showcase and improve their skills during the summer months, with a minor league-type atmosphere. Some college players are local, while others come from all across the country. That is when families of The Woodlands can pitch in to help. The Strykers are still in need of five host families to provide housing for players during their time here in The Woodlands.

When choosing to become a host family, you will not just be taking on a tenant; you will be adding a member to your family. These college-age kids will be more than grateful for your generosity and will treat your home and family with nothing but respect. Not to mention that Strykers players can act as positive role models for children. What is asked of the families is that they can provide a bed and bathroom, as well as one to two meals per day when the team is at home. However, you are not expected to cook constantly for players. They will be happy with sandwiches and leftovers that they can prepare on their own. The players will arrive in late May for the start of the season and stay until the middle of August.

In return, a bond will be formed between your family and a Stryker’s player, a relationship that will last long after the team’s season ends. Host families will also receive season tickets for the Strykers season. The games take place right here in the community at The Woodlands Christian Academy, and the players love to see their adopted families cheering them on in the stands. You will also be invited to host family events that are scheduled throughout the season.

If your family is interested in hosting a baseball player for the Woodlands Strykers, contact Jake Versaw for a host family application.

The Woodlands Strykers will open with a four-game home stand at The Woodlands Christian Academy on Thursday, May 29th against the Victoria Generals. Everyone is welcome to come on out and cheer on their local baseball team. It is inexpensive entertainment for the whole family to enjoy!

The Woodlands Strykers have also introduced their 2014 Internship Program. This program is the perfect fit for college students interested in broadcast production, marketing, social media, and game day operations. For more information, visit the website. To apply, send a cover letter and resume to Jake Versaw. His contact information is below.
