THE WOODLANDS, Texas – Get ready to march to the beat of your own drum and jam the night away with the Because Art Matters DRUM JAM on Saturday, April 12, 2014, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at The Woodlands Waterway Square. The public is invited to the second annual event that will feature interactive drum and beat stations, bongo drums, drum lines and junkyard percussion. DRUM JAM is being held in conjunction with The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival and provides the opportunity to experience the drumming expertise of percussion artists including Let Them Drum! All-Stars, the Sam Houston State University Steel Drum Band, Dan the Drummer and more!
A Jammin’ Way to Support Art and Culture Outreach Programs in our Community!

The event is open to all ages and donations are welcomed. All proceeds of this event go directly to Because Art Matters, whose mission is to present programs throughout the year to enrich lives, strengthen character and help heal, through the presence of the performing and visual arts in Montgomery County.

Kayleen Barton, Coordinator for Because Art Matters said, “For a donation, participants can join in the drumming fun – either on trash cans and buckets (like STOMP), on hand drums from around the world, or as part of a drum line! The event promises to be a fun time and an opportunity to make a real difference in the community by helping to bring fine arts to those who would not otherwise have the opportunity.”

Because Art Matters (BAM) is the year-round educational outreach arm of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council (WWAC). “We focus on four pillars of service at Because Art Matters, working directly with senior citizen groups, at-risk students of all ages, people with special needs and circumstances, and partners in the community,” said WWAC board member and BAM Committee Chair Kim Lacayo. “We are passionate in our belief that ‘the creative outlet of the arts presents an opportunity to discover the inner spark that leads to a stronger sense of self-confidence, the development of creative thinking, and an appreciation for other cultures and viewpoints.”

The DRUM JAM coordinators would like to thank this year’s sponsors, The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, Let Them Drum!, and The Woodlands Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We hope everyone will join us for a “Jammin’ Good Time” while giving back to the community,” Lacayo said.
