HS Baseball Playoffs: Grand Oaks Closes out Spring; The Woodlands & Willis Sweep Series
THE WOODLANDS, TX –- After a 12-2 victory over the Spring Lions on Friday, the Grand Oaks Grizzlies had home field advantage for the following 2 games. Being up 1-0 in the series they would have to fend off the Lions in order to reach the Area playoffs and become Bi-District champions.
In game one, Hamilton and Kelley pitched for a combined no hitter with Kelly striking out 1 and Hamilton retiring 10 to the dugout. Harden was the big shot going 3 for 3 but it was a combined effort between Carnes, Dwyer, Langridge and O’Farrell to get the Grizzles a 12-2 victory.
Game 2 on Saturday was all but different from Friday. The Grizzlies also dominated on the mound with Collins pitching 4 innings and retiring 7 back to the dugout. The Lions were able to get some hits in the outfield but the Grizzlies’ defense stopped them in their tracks. Once again O’Farrell, Dwyer, and Harden lead the way with multiple hits to contribute to the 10-0 victory.
For the second season in a row, the Grizzlies have moved passed the Bi-District round to face another opponent in the Area Round. Hamilton, Kelley and Collins have a tough week ahead of them to prepare for the next game.
The Grizzlies move on and sweep Spring 2-0 in a best of 3 Bi-District series. They face Tomball Memorial next week.
The Woodlands v. Aldine Davis
Game 1: 6-3 | Game 2: 19-0 | Series: 2-0 (The Woodlands)
The Woodlands faced Aldine Davis (Benjamin Davis) at Humble High School, which would be host to all 3 games if necessary.
In Game 1 of the series, The Woodlands found themselves down early on by Aldine Davis. Although down, The Woodlands rallied back and took the lead back in the 3rd inning.
Coronel pitched all 7 innings for Highlanders and retired 7 of the Aldine Davis batters.
Game 2 was a bit different. On the hot Saturday morning, The Woodlands brought their ‘A’ game and dominated offensively. With a huge 8 run rally in the 5th inning, The Woodlands shut out Aldine Davis 19-0 and earned a spot in the Area Round.

Willis v. MacArthur
One Game Series: 4-2 (Willis)
Just like the softball Lady Wildkats, the baseball team decided to run the traditional one game elimination series against the number 1 seed, MacArthur. This is a risky move but in the end, it paid off for the Wildkats.
Willis knocks out MacArthur and move on to the Area round with The Woodlands, Grand Oaks and Oak Ridge. They face Tomball next week.
