THE WOODLANDS, TX – Residents of The Woodlands mourned the passing of a local businessman and community icon. John W. Veith, aged 60, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2023. John was part owner of Village Cuts Hair Salon with his wife of 37 years, Janet Veith.

John was born in Queens, New York to Elaine Blum and William K. Veith. As a youth he moved to Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Stroudsburg High School. After graduation, he attended Monroe County Area Vocational Technical School for machine shop studies. Over the years he worked at Bartonsville Truck Center and Leonard’s Tool & Manufacturing Co. as a machinist.

In 1985, John moved to Texas where he started his career working for Metro Transit Authority. He started as a journeyman mechanic in running repair and inspections, as well as heavy repair – and then worked his way up to lead man. Over his 30-year career there he became foreman, and alongside of that he enjoyed being part owner of Village Cuts Hair Salon with his wife for more than twenty years.

John was a loving husband, father, grandpa, brother, uncle and a good friend. Besides his wife Janet, he is survived by his daughter, Vanessa Veith; goddaughter Nicole Beckman; two grandchildren, Nolan Griggs and Natalie Griggs; his uncle Edmund Blum, and his cherished three-year-old cocker spaniel, Ginger Spice.

John enjoyed spending time with his family camping, barbecuing, watching Nascar racing and attending Talladega Speedway twice a year, and following his favorite Houston Astros. He is resting at Klein Memorial Park – Magnolia - The Woodlands.
