THE WOODLANDS, TX -- With another week of volleyball action finished, the standings made small shifts. The top teams remain locked in their positions, while the programs near the bottom continue to fight for wins.

The Woodlands vs. Willis

9/19/23

With a long stretch of home games beginning, the Lady Highlanders welcomed the Ladykats of Willis with the hopes of jumping in the district standings.

Willis fought hard in the road environment but could not handle the effort shown by the Woodlands. A greater focus on limiting errors and connecting on the positives pushed the Lady Highlanders ahead in sets. The leads would scarcely evaporate or dwindle toward a tie, resulting in a fairly comfortable win for the Woodlands in straight sets.

Oak Ridge vs. Caney Creek

9/19/23

After inconsistency plagued the Lady War Eagles in the early season, the team began a successful stretch of wins on the week.

Oak Ridge’s first opponent on the week was Caney Creek, who sat with only one district win to their name. The opening set was easy pickings for the Lady War Eagles with a 14-point victory. The following sets would not be any closer as Oak Ridge asserted their dominance through stingy defense and hard-hitting offense. Performance down the stretch sealed the deal for Oak Ridge, with the win coming in straight sets.

Conroe vs. Cleveland

9/19/23

The Lady Tigers hosted the last-place Lady Indians with the hopes of getting back into playoff contention.

Conroe went to work on their opponents. Ripping shots on offense with ruthless efficiency provided large leads that the Lady Indians could only hope to catch up to. Cleveland scored a total of 24 points in all three sets combined, which prevented them from challenging the Lady Tigers. After their demonstrative clinic ended, the Lady Tigers needed only a handful of wins to get back to playoff territory.

New Caney vs. College Park

9/19/23

Having secured second place in the district, College Park faced the New Caney Lady Eagles in a road match.

The Lady Cavaliers would claim the first set, but not as easily as they may have hoped. New Caney fought tooth and nail during the first set before falling only by four points. The fight drastically changed in the second and third sets as College Park pulled away with meaningful leads. 11-point and 19-point victories in the second and third sets allowed the Lady Cavaliers to claim victory three to none.

Caney Creek vs. New Caney

9/22/23

A battle between Caney schools was brewing on Friday, with the Caney Creek Panthers set to host.

The first two sets were back and forth, with each team claiming one apiece. New Caney would pull ahead in the third set, which gave them momentum. The Lady Eagles continued to score in the clutch with big plays securing the all-important fourth set for a 3-1 victory over the Lady Panthers.

The win edges the Lady Eagles ahead of Caney Creek by half a game due to the head-to-head win.

Cleveland vs. Grand Oaks

9/22/23

The Lady Grizzlies continued their unmatched march toward the district championship with an outright domination of Cleveland on the road.

The Lady Indians failed to score more than five points in the first two sets of the match due to continual runs from Grand Oaks. The final set saw Cleveland put up a substantial fight against their opponents, but the fight fell short again. The Lady Grizzlies’ strength was too much to handle as they went on to win the match in straight sets.

The victory keeps the Lady Grizzlies with only one loss on the season and zero sets dropped during the entire district season.

College Park vs. Conroe

9/22/23

In need of another win to claim fourth place, the Lady Tigers went to College Park in search of it.

The Lady Cavaliers did not accommodate in terms of providing a win. College Park only defeated the Lady Tigers by two in the opening set, which looked like a great start for Conroe to feed on. However, they would starve in the second set as the Lady Cavaliers ran out to a 14-point victory that firmly swung momentum on their side. Conroe tried their hardest in the third to get a win but fell short of doing so, losing in straight sets.

The win keeps College Park in second place while extending their overall win streak to nine in a row.

Willis vs. Oak Ridge

9/22/23

Following a solid win on Tuesday, Oak Ridge looked to parlay that success into their matchup against Willis.

The first two sets ended with the Lady War Eagles claiming comfortable victories by single digits. The Ladykats scrapped together a minor comeback effort with their win in the third to force at least one more set before ending the night. With the threat of a Willis comeback, Oak Ridge slammed the door shut. A 12-point win in the final set secured a 3-1 victory for the Lady War Eagles.

Back-to-back wins on the week for Oak Ridge kept the rest of the district at bay and snagged them fourth place as the district schedule begins to wind down.
