THE WOODLANDS, TX -- After an offseason of building and tournament play to sharpen up, the teams of 13-6A eagerly enter their opening days for district play.

Tuesday, the 25th, will ignite hope as each team sets its sights on the District Title. Many hope to reclaim lost glory from the past season.

The Woodlands vs. Grand Oaks

These teams were playoff squads during the 2024 campaign, including those that reached the Area Round of the State Playoffs.

The Grizzlies lost a sizable amount of talent, especially concerning their pitching. However, players like Marc Barnhard and the remaining lock-down fielders for Grand Oaks will look like a formidable force when limiting scoring for opposing teams.

Meanwhile, the Highlanders return a star-studded cast from their 2024 season to make a strong case as District Champion favorites. Veteran leadership, high-end talent, and the reliability of a coach like Ron Eastman make The Woodlands a veritable Death Star against teams trying to take them down.

Cleveland vs. Oak Ridge

The role of disruptor this season may fall on the shoulders of the Indians as their returning strength and seven starters fuel a desire to win now. While not stacked in the same manner as some other teams, Cleveland totes some dangerous weapons that could easily knock a team off their block should they overestimate the Indians.

In comparison, the War Eagles are playing for a right to defend their title from 2024. Some of the pieces have changed, including the departure of District MVP Aidan Morgan, but what remains for Coach J.J. Peirce and Oak Ridge are potent players who can maintain last year's positive momentum.

College Park vs. Conroe

A battle of teams that just missed the playoffs during the 2024 season may prove to be one of the most important games of the year due to projected trajectories following a win or loss.

Conroe's season was founded on incredible pitching and defensive play from guys like Eli Medina. His graduation, along with a handful of others, may have damaged the Tiger program, but the transitional success this squad is accustomed to means that Conroe will have a fighting chance against anyone who might overlook them.

The Cavaliers’ issue in 2024 was the tough losses to teams lower than them in the standings. With another year of experience for what was a relatively young roster means that College Park will enter the diamond as veteran players with chips on their shoulders from a season likely wasted.

Caney Creek vs. Willis

While a lop-sided matchup on paper, the Panthers are playing for pride in a season where many would count them as down and out. The only way forward for Caney Creek would be to move up, as their winless record through district play can only be improved by beating teams with everything the Panthers have. Scrappy play and an opportunity to catch a team while they're off may be the combo needed to ensure Caney Creek moves forward.

The Wildkats enter the 2025 district slate as the deepest representatives from the previous year's playoffs. An unwelcome departure via the eventual State Champions has lit a fire inside the hearts of the Wildkat players and coaches ahead of a hopeful push for the team's first District Title as a 6A school.
