Beverly grew up in the moving business. He started off moving furniture during the summertime, and he grew to love it, especially the customer service part of the job. After getting away from the moving industry and working in the restaurant industry for four years, Beverly knew what he really wanted to do.

Three years ago, after a total of 15 years in the moving business, Joe Beverly sat down with his wife and told her he wanted to start his own moving company. She agreed, and Beverly started Blue Ox Moving and Storage, located off of Sawdust.

“We focus on being neighborhood movers,” said Beverly. “Moving is stressful. Anything we can do to get in and make that customer’s transition that much easier is what we focus on.”

Since Blue Ox is family owned, the company is able to provide customers with personalized service, and each move is managed under Beverly’s supervision. Instead of being just another client at a large moving company or being overcharged, each customer at Blue Ox gets the time and dedication they deserve in order to make their move as smooth as possible. Beverly and his team know that people don’t just move personal belongings, they move memories as well.

When it comes to moving belongings, there isn’t anything that Blue Ox can’t handle. Originally from Washington D.C., Beverly recalled one of the craziest moves he had ever been a part of: a baby grand piano into a third-floor town home. The move consisted of having a crane come out to lift the piano up and getting a contractor to pull the window out.

“We literally had to reach out over a busy street and pull the piano into the house,” said Beverly.
