EVENT CANCELLED: Fight hunger and fill-a-truck with Blue Ox Moving, Sept. 27

THE WOODLANDS, Texas – On Sept. 27, Blue Ox Moving & Storage of The Woodlands will host a Fill-a-Truck food drive benefitting the Montgomery County Food Bank (MCFB) at Kroger in Cochran’s Crossing Shopping Center, 4747 Research Forest Drive, The Woodlands.

“September is Hunger Action Month, when the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks unites to urge individuals to take action in their communities,” said Joe Beverly, owner of Blue Ox Moving & Storage. “We are inviting everyone to come help us reach our goal of filling one of our moving trucks with 2,500 pounds of food and other items for our neighbors in need.”

The most needed items from food drives and individual donors include:


For families: Canned meats (tuna, chicken, stew, chili), canned vegetables, canned fruits, peanut butter, cereal, powdered baby formula, dried soup mixes, dried beans, boxed pastas, rice;

Non-food items: Diapers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels;

For the Buddy Backpack Program: Non-perishable, shelf-stable single-serving boxes of cereal, milk and juice, tuna packs, pop-top cans of Vienna sausages, ramen soups, fruit cups, pudding cups, granola bars, individual boxes of raisins, peanut butter or cheese crackers and any other nutritious, kid-friendly light-weight food items;

For the Care and Share Program for seniors: Non-perishable, shelf-stable foods that fit seniors’ specific dietary needs for low salt, low sugar, easily prepared foods;

Monetary donations: For every $1 contributed to MCFB, 3.5 nutritious meals are given to those in need.

Founded in 1985, the MCFB acts as a clearinghouse for edible food items donated and purchased for distribution to charities assisting the poor and victims in crisis. The MCFB collects and distributes more than seven million pounds of food each year providing nutritious meals to more than 40,000 children, adults and seniors living in Montgomery County through partner agencies. The MCFB is a partner with the Houston Food Bank, a member of the Texas Food Bank Network and a member of Feeding America.

Since 2012, Blue Ox Moving & Storage has serviced Texas and the Gulf Coast region, providing personalized moving needs including packing, storage and local and long distance relocation services. They are a member of the Southwest Movers Association.
