You may be in for a bit of a shock this evening, as our indicators show a brief but raging thunderstorm hitting us this afternoon and evening, dumping more than a half-inch of rain in the area. But, mysteriously, it will leave as swiftly as it came, leaving us with even more humidity in the air.

Already this monday morning, our winds have kicked up from zero to about 5 mph; however things will remain calm and steady until around 4 o’clock this afternoon, when the skies should turn dark and the rains will dump. The temperature will plummet from its afternoon high of 95 (with 12 degrees added on top due to the heat index) down to the mid 80s and the winds will upsurge to go along with it. Before sundown, though, it should be all over with, with dry, still skies and the winds slowly drop back down to nil and the mercury actually briefly creeps back up. Expect a low in the upper 70s.

Tuesday will see some residual clouds, maybe even a sprinkle or two, but expect a bright day with another high of 95 and a heat index in the hundreds, with some returning breezes to caress the sweat off our collective brow. Most of the clouds will peak in the early evening, and you can enjoy another quiet night with low breezes and a bottomed-out temperature of 76.

On Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny, but some clouds will still dot the sky and the humidity might bring some light rain here and there. Once again, the humidity will be off the charts, and the 7 mph winds will do little against the high temp of 96. As the low gradually makes it down into the mid 70s, you can rest assured that Thursday will be virtually identical, two days in a row of hot and humid with simultaneously sunny and cloudy skies

Friday will be our hottest day yet this month, with the mercury getting all the way up to 99 degrees and another eight tacked on. The winds will level out under the bright skies, making all the kids stuck in school this week look wistfully out the window as summer continues without them.

As the weekend kicks off, you can expect the warming trend to continue as we level out at hte 100-degree mark for several days…

Stay tuned to Woodlands Online for our Weekend Weather report coming on Friday.
