April 11 Event Raises Awareness and Challenges Victim-Blaming Myths
The Montgomery County Women’s Center invites the community to join them on April 11th, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, as they honor victims of sexual assault in our community. This important event will take place in front of the Montgomery County Courthouse in Conroe (301 N Main St, Conroe, TX 77301).
At the heart of the event is a powerful exhibit titled “What Were You Wearing?” This display shares real stories from survivors, illustrating what they were wearing at the time of their assault. Too often, victims of sexual assault are asked, “What were you wearing?”—a question that wrongly shifts blame onto the survivor rather than the perpetrator. The exhibit aims to dismantle this harmful myth and reinforce the message that sexual assault is never the victim’s fault.
In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, this exhibit also serves as a tribute to the 873 sexual assault survivors that the Montgomery County Women’s Center accompanied in 2024. The organization’s advocates provide critical support by accompanying survivors to forensic exams, offering guidance, and serving as a source of hope during an incredibly difficult time.
Shirts and other merchandise will be available for purchase and pickup at the event. Community members are encouraged to attend, show their support, and stand in solidarity with survivors.
