Apply for Special Needs Youth & Adult Ministry Assistant
Summary: The Special Needs Youth & Adult Ministry Assistant provides a consistent and compassionate staff presence and direction for Special Needs Youth & Adults and their families that fosters an environment for discipleship, fellowship, outreach, and worship. This role works in collaboration with central staff and in alignment with The Woodlands Methodist Church’s mission to reach people for Jesus Christ, disciple them in faith, and help those in need.
Essential Functions:
- A positive, helpful friendly demeanor at all times; ability to collaborate with others.
- Arrive at the assigned area on time, prepared, and ready to work.
- Attend all team meetings, staff meetings, and trainings.
- Participate in ministry programs, Special Needs Family Worship, and events
- Engage with individuals with special needs and their families upon arrival and dismissal.
- Focus on the individuals participating in Special Needs Youth & Adult Ministry
- Teach and manage a Sunday School or Sensory classroom that is developmentally appropriate and Christ-centered.
- Assist Special Needs Youth and Adult Ministry Director across all campuses as directed, including but limited to:
- Prepare teaching materials for Sunday School
- Provide direction to interns and volunteers
- Facilitate activities for ministry programs, Special Needs Family Worship, and events.
- Prepare for Special Needs Family Worship, ministry programs, and events.
- Ensure the environment is clean and all materials are put away.
- Maintain records, documentation, and prayer requests with sensitivity and confidentiality.
- Participation in the spiritual formation of individuals with special needs.
- Schedule and set up rooms and registrations.
- Communicate about events and ministry programs with Special Needs Families and Caregivers.
- Support outreach and cross-campus efforts and programs.
- Set up orders and materials lists for purchasing.
- Maintain the Special Needs Youth and Adults Ministry Calendar.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:
- Reports to: Director of Special Needs Ministry
- Position Type: Part-Time, non-exempt
- Schedule: Mon-Wed 8:30am-3:30pm and Sun 9:00 AM-2:00 PM, 27 hours a week in the office or at various events with some evenings required. Sundays are required.
- Compensation: Dependent on Experience

- Must be 16+ years or older, 18+ is preferable.

- Experience in teaching individuals with special needs.

- Computer skills with Microsoft programs, email, and internet proficiency.
- College coursework in education, healthcare, or a related field is preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Must be physically able to keep up with youth and adults and lift a minimum of 40lbs.
- This position requires sitting, standing, lifting, reaching, and crawling.
