Brighton Academy is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic kitchen assistant to join our team. As kitchen assistant, you will work alongside the kitchen manager and be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the kitchen, ensuring the cleanliness of the kitchen, planning and preparing ingredients for cooking, and supporting the kitchen team with general food preparation for students and teachers for two campus location and any administrative tasks and duties as requested and needed by the kitchen manager.

Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation:
o Assist with the planning and preparation of ingredients for cooking, including washing, peeling, chopping, and dicing vegetables, meats, and other foods.
o Prepare and assemble items for cooking or serving under the guidance of chefs.
o Ensure all ingredients are stored and organized properly.
Kitchen Cleaning and Maintenance:
o Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, including washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils.
o Clean kitchen equipment, appliances, and work surfaces regularly to meet health and safety requirements and standards.
o Empty bins and dispose of waste appropriately.
o Assist in cleaning kitchen floors and other areas as needed.
Inventory Assistance:
o Assist in stock management, including checking inventory levels and restocking ingredients and supplies.
o Ensure that kitchen items are properly stored and labeled to avoid cross-contamination.
o Support kitchen staff with receiving and storing deliveries.
Support to Kitchen Staff:
o Assist kitchen manager during food preparation and cooking processes.
o Assist with plating and presenting food when necessary.
o Ensure the kitchen is running smoothly by maintaining a steady supply of clean tools, plates, and utensils.
Health and Safety Compliance:
o Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations in the kitchen.
o Ensure kitchen equipment is properly maintained and safe to use.
o Ensure safe handling and storage of all food products.
Communication:
o Collaborate with kitchen staff and communicate effectively to ensure efficient operations.
o Follow instructions from the kitchen manager regarding preparation methods, standards, and schedules.

Key Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge: Basic knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety standards, and hygiene regulations.
• Physical Ability: Ability to stand for long periods and carry heavy objects (e.g., bags of flour, boxes of vegetables).
• Organization: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Teamwork: Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Communication: Good verbal communication skills.


Working Conditions and Benefits:
• Commercial kitchen setting experience is required
• Part-time position
• Pay Rate - $13.00
