Head Camp Counselor - Sunny Dayz Camp

Camp Training (Mandatory): Wednesday, May 14 to Friday, May 23, 2025 AND one additional Saturday in July (Date TBD)
Summer Camp: Tuesday, May 27 to Friday, August 12, 2025
Summary of Duties: Head Camp Counselors are responsible for leading and supervising assigned age groups at designated recreation center. Plans, conducts, and leads activities while interacting, and maintaining safety and supervision of participants and Camp Counselors in a recreation program environment. Work is performed under immediate supervision with exercise of judgement in accordance with established policies, procedures, and techniques. This position is a temporary seasonal position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Leads and supervises assigned age groups. Acts as liaison between the Camp Supervisor, Camp Counselors, participants, and parents.
• Responsible for group counts, ensuring adherence to camp ratio and participant accountability. With support from the Camp Supervisor, oversees and maintains camper behavior, discipline, and conduct within the group to ensure safety of participants.
• Responsible for accurate attendance/tracking of assigned groups throughout the camp operations including camp field trips.
• Assist in planning and implementing of daily activities and ensures groups have materials and instructions needed for successful leadership; adapts activities, games, and events to participants age, physical ability, and interests.
• Responsible for assisting with group activity and curriculum planning and execution.
• Lead Camp Counselors and campers in daily activities. Works cooperatively with peers to meet program goals.
• Responsible for providing leadership, effective communication, and assistance to Camp Counselors.
• Responsible for checking facilities, equipment, and reporting any issues to the Camp Supervisor.
• Direct incidents to Camp Supervisor, reports problems and exercises thoroughness and caution when maintaining maximum safety for all participants and Camp Counselors.
• Ensures safe and proper use of group equipment and materials. Ensure that equipment is returned to the storage area in its original condition and put back in an organized manner.
• Responsible for the management and storage of camper emergency medications.
• Responsible for the management and setup of lost and found.
• Assist in the performing of general cleaning duties to include but not limited to trash pickup, sweeping, mopping, and room disinfection.
• Assist the Camp Supervisor in responding to parent inquiries, comments, questions, and complaints in a timely manner via in-person, email, and/or phone.
• Assist the Camp Supervisor in the completion a variety of records and forms such as discipline reports, parent notifications, incident and first aid reports.
• Responsible for enforcing policies, procedures, and safety rules.
• Respond to and take care of circumstances requiring first aid.
• Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential.
• Required to attend all orientation meetings and trainings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 40 hours a week. One Saturday in July.
Benefits:
• 7 unpaid days off during the summer.
• Referral bonus of $50. If you know someone interested in being a new Camp Counselor, refer them to apply and list your name as the person who referred them. As long as both you and your referral are hired and remain in good standing, you will receive $25 at the middle of the season and $25 at the end of the season.
Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Knowledge of: A variety of recreational and athletic activities; knowledge of basic arts and crafts skills; and knowledge of basic creative dramatic procedures. Requires a good knowledge of outdoor recreation practices and techniques when assigned to outdoor activities.
Skills in: The ability to communicate effectively with children, adults, and other staff. The ability to swim 25 yards and tread water for 30 continuous seconds required.
Education: High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Experience: One (1) year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
Ability to pass CPR and First Aid certification training. Test administered by the Township required.
Safety-Sensitive: This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.
$14.90 Hourly
