New Pizzeria Opens at Market Street

THE WOODLANDS, Texas -- Pizza by Marco, a family-owned pizzeria chain, recently opened in Market Street. The Woodlands store is the first outside the Dallas area, where the original opened in 1956 and still remains today.

After he began serving his mother’s pizza at his Carroll Lounge in the 1940s, Marco decided to change his restaurant into a true pizzeria – the first in Dallas. Frank Nuccio, the son of the founder, took over the company after his father’s death. He decided to expand Pizza by Marco. Even with a growing number of restaurants, the company’s secret remains within the family.

“I’m the only one who knows the recipe for the sauce and dough,” Nuccio said.

The Woodlands location will only have a basic menu until it is fully established.

“Beer and wine are coming,” Nuccio said. “We also have more specialty pizzas coming.”

For now, however, the menu is not lacking. Eight specialty pizzas plus the classic cheese pizza are on the menu, not to mention the numerous extra toppings that are available. Salads, subs, calzones and more can also be ordered.

The prices are reasonable and service is both friendly and speedy. They also have great lunch deals every weekday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I opted for the $3.99 lunch special that contained a single one-topping slice and a drink. The thin crust slice is a rather large portion and the artichoke hearts that I chose as a topping were plentiful.

The pizza had a very good flavor – undoubtedly the source of the company’s many awards. It has repeatedly been named “Best Pizza” by multiple news sources.

The restaurant’s atmosphere was also very pleasant. It doesn’t feel like a company with many stores, but rather a small family-owned pizzeria.

Pizza By Marco is located at suite 1250 in Market Street and serves lunch and dinner.
