Junior High Science Fair needs an additional 200 judges.
THE WOODLANDS, Texas - The Education for Tomorrow Alliance (EfTA) is in need of judges for their annual SCI://TECH Exposition, specifically for the Junior High Science Fair, on February 18, 2011 from 5 - 9 p.m. The event will take place at Lone Star College Montgomery, located at 3200 College Park Drive.

The EfTA will hold a training session for first-time judges on the same evening as the Junior High Science Fair in Building B, Room 102, at 4:30 p.m. There will be a brief refresher course after the judges’ meal for all the judges. All that is required is for applicants to select a category that they have some foundation in and can carry on a casual conversation about. Be prepared to select a couple of backup categories in the event your first choice is full.

Judges will be primarily judging the student’s in-depth knowledge of the project, not their own, ensuring that the student truly understands what they are trying to convey and that the project was in fact, their work. Judges need only to validate that it is a science experiment and not just an attractive display by ensuring that the findings have been verified by repeating the experiment sufficiently to support their conclusion.

Judges will be assigned to a team of as knowledgeable as them self about the science category to be judged. The team will pool their feedback and determine the winners in that respective category. No one judge solely determines the winners. In addition to a dinner, judges will have another opportunity to network and socialize afterwards in the judges’ hospitality room.

If this weekend is inconvenient, there are other opportunities throughout the month to judge events. To see the many opportunities available for judging and to apply, go to the EfTA website page for the SCI://TECH Science Exposition at the link bleow.
