CONROE, TX -- Montgomery County Hospital District is offering free CPR classes in an effort to educate as many people as possible in the life-saving skill. CPR in the first few minutes of sudden cardiac arrest can save a person from disability and death. The more members of the community we can educate on CPR, the safer community we can become.

The next free class is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th at the MCHD Administration Building located at 1400 S Loop 336 West in Conroe, Texas 77304. MCHD plans to offer a free class every third Thursday of the month. The class includes an American Heart Association Heartsaver CPR/AED certification.

Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is the leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for 325,000 deaths every year.

“Without CPR in the first minutes of a cardiac arrest, permanent brain damage or death can occur in less than 8 minutes,” said James Seek, MCHD Division Chief – Clinical. “The chances of survival decrease by 10 percent every minute that person goes without CPR. So, after 10 minutes, there is a very small chance of a successful resuscitation. Bystander CPR is one of the most important factors in saving that person’s life.”

Pre-registration is required. More information and registration can be found here: https://www.mchd-tx.org/events/heartsaver-cpr-aed-48/.
