THE WOODLANDS, TX -- The following events are planned for adults, children, young adults, and their families in December 2019 at South Regional Library, 2101 Lake Robbins Dr., The Woodlands, TX.

All events take place at the South Regional Library:


Monthly and Bi-Monthly Events at the Library

Preteen Book Club (Registration Required)
At each meeting of the Preteen Book Club, preteens aged 9 through 12 discuss the month's book with each other and Miss Davina. The first five preteens to sign up receive a free copy of that month's book (one book per family). Before attending book club, preteens should have read all or most of the month's book.
If you are interested in obtaining one of the five free copies of the book, please call the South Regional Library's children's desk at 936-522-2712 to see if one is available.

Time: 4:30pm to 5:30pm

R.E.A.D.® to the Dogs (Registration required – registration opens on Sept. 10 at 10:00am)
READ to the Dogs encourages children to practice their reading skills by reading to specially trained therapy dogs. Children who read five books to a dog receive a free book. This activity is provided through a partnership with Pets with a Mission. This program is intended for children who can read independently or with minimal help. Children who are not yet reading are invited to enjoy books in the library with their caregivers.
PLEASE REGISTER ALL CHILDREN WHO WILL BE READING. Parents and nonreaders do not need to register.

Gardening with Bob – Native and Fruit Trees (Registration Required)
Master Gardener Bob Dailey presents Native & Fruit Trees. November is a great time to plant trees. Learn how to plant and care for your native trees and fruit trees.

Time: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

Gumshoe Mystery Book Club (Registration Required)
Please join us for Gumshoe Mystery Book Club every second Tuesday of the odd-numbered months for lively discussion and trivia. A few free copies of the upcoming book club selection will be raffled off during the meeting. There will also be a chance to register and receive a free copy starting at 10:00 am the day of registration.
Date: Nov. 10 She Lies in Wait by Gytha Lodge
Time: 2:00pm – 3:00pm (in-person)

Walking Book Club (Registration Required)
Join us for a walking book club. Exercise your mind and body by taking book discussions on the move! We will walk the Waterway together, then return to the library for light refreshments.

The featured book for November will be Dry by Neal Shusterman & Jarrod Shusterman. Registration begins Sept. 1 @ 10:00 am. Copies of the upcoming book club selection will be raffled off during each book club meeting. There will also be a chance to register and receive a free copy starting at 10:00 am the day of registration. Call 936-522-2699.

Weekly Events at the Library

Baby & Me Storytime (Registration Required – only children need to be registered)
Baby & Me Story time focuses on nursery rhymes and movement and is geared toward infants up to age 18 months. Parents and caregivers should be prepared to be actively involved in this storytime. Each Baby & Me Storytime is about 25 minutes long.
Dates: Nov. 2, 9, 16, 30
Times: 9:15am and 10:00am

Toddler Story time (Registration Required – only children need to be registered)
Toddler Story time introduces children to books with simple language and predictable plots. This program introduces toddlers to story time manners by helping them build listening skills and practice the self-control needed to be a good audience. Toddler Story time is most appropriate for children age 18 months to 3 years old. Each Toddler Story time is about 25 minutes long and concludes with a simple craft.
Dates: Nov. 7, 14, 28
Times: 9:15am and 10:00am

Preschool Story time (Registration Required – only children need to be registered)
Preschool Story time provides a place for children to practice the story time manners they have learned in Toddler Story time. Children in Preschool Story time are expected to sit or stand still, listen to the storyteller, and practice self-control for longer periods of time than required during Toddler Story time. Stories are longer and activities are more complex. Preschool Story time lasts about 30 minutes and concludes with a simple craft. Preschool Story time is best for children over 3 years of age.

Nov. 23 – all MCMLS branches close at 5:00 pm
