Lone Star College Foundation awards $10,000 scholarship to Jack Kent Cooke semifinalists

HOUSTON, TX -- Lone Star College Foundation recently held a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Recognition Celebration to honor 18 LSC students named semifinalists of the prestigious Cooke Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship.

“Lone Star College and Lone Star College Foundation are incredibly proud to recognize an exemplary group of students whose hard work and commitment to their education is leading them toward earning prestigious opportunities such as the Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSC Foundation executive director.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation recently announced Alexis Lopez, an LSC-Tomball student, as a finalist scholarship recipient. LSC Foundation will award the remaining 17 LSC students with a $10,000 scholarship to help with academic expenses. As a finalist, Lopez will receive up to $55,000 each year for two to three years to complete a bachelor’s degree at any accredited four-year undergraduate institution in the United States.

“Lone Star College Foundation is excited to provide students with an opportunity to blaze a trail they might not have thought possible,” said Robinson. “These students, semifinalists and finalist, will finish this academic year with a scholarship to help with the next chapter of their educational journey thanks to a very generous donor.”

The college’s Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship Recognition Celebration took place at the LSC-System Office, The Woodlands. Notable guests included Jim Cain, Ed.D., LSC Board of Trustees assistant secretary and Ernestine M. Pierce, LSC Board of Trustees member. Also in attendance were LSC Foundation Board Members: James B. Harrison III, chair; Miranda Hadamik, vice chair; Alton Smith, Ed.D., secretary; Gennifer Kelly, past chair; Stuart Barrett, Trent Eckel, Anhlan Nguyen, DBA, Stephen Quezada, Jesse Rios and Seth Sharr.

“Lone Star College Foundation strives to help students prepare to enter today’s competitive workforce by ensuring they have the financial and academic resources needed to succeed in the classroom,” said James B. Harrison, III, LSC Foundation board chair and principal at HarrisonKornberg Architects. “We make this happen with the generous support of our internal and external donors.”

LSC Foundation is the non-profit fundraising arm of Lone Star College, charged to change lives through student scholarships and other financial opportunities to help reduce economic barriers toward a quality education. They raise money through various events, including the annual Golf Tournament and StarGala, partnerships with area residents and corporations and established scholarship and endowment funds.

LSC Foundation has raised over $4.6 million and provided $2,639,819 in scholarships to 2,503 students and $991,583 in program and emergency support to Lone Star College in 2022-23. Learn more at LoneStar.edu/Giving.
